On the Street…Parisian Casual

Paris_casual_1

The Parisian take on casual is not so different from New York's. They have even adopted our fondness for "le flip-flop." It helps that this guy is tall, but his look is kept from being sloppy by the fact that his shirt is slim and not too long.

One of the other trends I saw, but was not able to get a shot of, was the rolled hem on shorts. From the runways to the streets, men's shorts are getting slimmer and shorter (see the white shorts in my Junya post). Did you hear that, Abercrombie design team?

These pics are good, but they're not nearly capturing the true spirit and style of Paris. For goodness sake, please go to the Marais to do some 'on the street' pics if you can find any time between the shows. The Marais is absolute home to the French-Paris style, quirkiness etc. I particularly recommend Cafe Hugo on Place des Vosges, a firm favourite with the fashion industry: last time I was there Alexander McQueen and Christian Louboutin were having coffee at the next table.

It seems you also miss an important square : Cafıı de Flore & Lipp, boulevard Saint-Germain. Sunday 8pm, Cafıı de Flore: Karl Largefeld reading his magazines with a hundred of peoples trying not to stare at him. Sunday 8:45pm, rue de Varenne, Emanuel Ungaro, alone, entering the Prime Minister'residence for a diner served by the PM's wife. Monday 9:30pm, Giorgio Armani chez Lipp with his Armani Privıı team.

I did shoot in the Marias, the shot of the Street Musician is from there and I did several shots on St-Germain.
I was running between shows so I did not have enough time to hit everything but thanks for the hints for next time.

Wow, a comment from the man himself!
Not trying to be critical; the Milan pics were great, I just feel the French ones aren't quite as French as they could be, but maybe it's all different during fashion week when hundreds of foreign editors etc. descend on the city. Is Paris it or are you off somewhere else next? I bet m.s.com would consider making a permanent feature of you for pics that just focus on what guys are wearing..

you haven't seen all the shots yet, more go up today.
I was quite happy with the "Street Musician" shot and the "Street Artist" and check out the shots from the book fair - i love those.

With a keen eye and ever-present camera, Scott Schuman—better known by his nom de blog, The Sartorialist—has developed a loyal fashion world following for his portraits of well-dressed New Yorkers. We decided to turn him loose on the streets of Milan and Paris during Fashion Week. Here's what he found.
