Q: I am looking for a watch for my husband, who just completed his MBA. Although I am on a budget (preferably under $500), I would like a fashionable watch that he can wear from the boardroom to a baseball game. Any suggestions?

A: I don’t usually recommend brands, but since you seem so thoughtful, I’ll admit that I’m a fan of Hamilton Watches, an American brand that my grandfather wore and that I do, too. My grandpa liked them because train conductors favored them, and of course they were made in the U.S.A. I like the handsome and unpretentious Hamilton Khaki Field watches, which start at about $175.
