Q: I say corduroy pants are professional business attire. My brother says theyre not. We both work in retail. Whos right?
A: Youre both right and youre both wrong, depending on the profession and the occasion. Corduroy, especially in a thinner wale, is certainly acceptable in more casual offices. A corduroy suit is sporty, but in a quiet color it could be professional. It is excellent for psychiatrists, I believe. I would certainly not want a lawyer defending me in court to be dressed in a corduroy suit, but if my internist were wearing one it wouldnt shatter my confidence. As for salesmen, Id say it all depends on what theyre selling. Corduroy is probably good for selling real estate and bad for selling bridal gowns.
