Q: I always thought it was inappropriate to wear a belt under the emblazoned leather label on jeans. However, I’ve been seeing more people using it as a belt loop, including a famous men’s designer. Is this ever acceptable?

A: It is only slightly less vulgar than leaving the tags on your clothes. I used to cut those leather labels off-. Now I seem to buy brands that eschew them altogether. Coincidence? Subtlety is its own reward.
