Awards tonight for the most stylish--and one for the less so

The fashion world is in high gear for tonight's annual CFDA Awards, at which Michael Bastian and the T(h)omsBrowne and Ford, that iswill square off for the title of menswear designer of the year, while Patrik Ervell, Tim Hamilton, and Band of Outsiders' Scott Sternberg vie for the up-and-comers' Swarovski Award. But the evening will also fête a different sort of honoree: NYC Mayor Michael Bloomberg, whose fashion sense is, to put it politely, static.
Bloomberga Paul Stuart man, to the near-exclusion of everything elseis being honored for his commitment to the industry, from fighting to keep the shows at Bryant Park to combating counterfeit goods. His style dictum, says a spokesman, is less business-casual than "business-literal": green ties for St. Patty's, red for Valentine's Day, and so on. Will tonight's designers rub off on Mayor Mike? "I don't think you will ever see him in Thom Browne," Saks' Ronald Frasch told The New York Times. To which we say: probably for the best.
