Fresh Prince

Considering one of his paintings just sold at Christie's for $7 million, it's hard to believe Richard Prince has never had a solo show at a public institution in the U.K. The injustice comes to an end this Thursday, when Continuation goes on view at London's Serpentine Gallery. The exhibit follows up the artist's retrospective at the Guggenheim last fall with some new pieces; works on display include his nurse series (pictured: Runaway Nurse), muscle-car sculptures, and an installation of Prince's collection of books, furniture, and artwork (which mirrors how the artist has assembled them in his own private buildings in the U.S.). Asked what inspired the new exhibit, Prince, known for his appropriation of images, explained to us cryptically, "I was thinking of Steve Winwood when he was 15 years old and recording Gimme Some Lovin' with the Spencer Davis Group." To which we say: but of course.
