Live Suicide
Given how frequently Alan Vega turns up these days, you'd never guess that the Suicide vocalist was on the eve of his 70th birthday. But he is, and to celebrate, U.K. label blastfirstpetite is releasing a live box set today, featuring 13 full Suicide sets from the band's early New York appearances and first European tour, supporting The Clash and Elvis Costello. Need even more Suicide? Beginning July 28, the label will release a monthly ten-inch featuring an unreleased track, a cover by an up-and-coming band, and a cover by an established artistkicking off with no less than Bruce Springsteen. Tributes from Spiritualized, Peaches, Liars, and more will follow, but as far as we're concerned, after The Boss takes on the spirit of '77, the rest is all gravy.
Live 1977-78 box, $84.99, at amazon.com; for more information on the singles, visit blastfirstpetite.com

Alan Vega was born in 1948, the researcher either can't read press kits or can't handle basic arithmetic. In either case a slap on the wrist.

Thanks for the sharp eye--in fact, arithmetic is not this researcher's specialty--but in this case, the math is correct. Vega was born in 1938; the 1948 date, circulating on Wiki sites and elsewhere, is a mistake, the result of some old misinformation.
