Sunny optimism from Bill Maher

Well, actually, no—quite the opposite, in fact. The acerbic comedian returns to HBO tonight, just in time to offer his observations on next week's dog-and-pony show in the Twin Cities. (Guests? Jon Corzine, Tim Kaine, Craig Ferguson—you know, the usual hard-line right wingers.) If his mood earlier this week is any indication, expect him to be in top form. See him explain to Chris Matthews why Americans "get stupider and stupider every election cycle" below:

In other news, AMC is showing a marathon of Mad Men's second season on Sunday night. Those who'd like a break from politics (and don't have DVRs) are in luck.
