Art, on the record
Just in time for the much-ballyhooed vinyl revival comes Spin, an exhibit of high-design record covers at University of the Arts London's Arts Gallery. And while the idea that album art is just as compelling as, you know, art-art isn't new, the gallery gets points for its choice in curators: British GQ 's Dylan Jones, the Horrors' Faris Rotter, and Peter Saville, who did covers for Joy Division, New Order, and more. Some of their picks are underwhelming (the Chemical Brothers' Surrender, boring both inside and out), but most are spot-on, including The Streets' Original Pirate Material (left) and Hard-Fi's Stars of CCTV. Sadly, the gallery has yet to show any interest in our extensive collection of cassingles.
Spin: The Art of Cover Design, today through Oct. 3, Arts Gallery, 65 Davies St., 44-207-514-6448, arts.ac.uk
