Era, we hardly knew ye

There's a slightly fatalistic twinge to L.A.'s cheekily named Endovanera (say it slowly if you're not following), but the line's designs aren't nostalgic. Case in point: designers David Michael Hershberger and Mitch Moseley's pull-back trenchcoat, now available at Assembly New York. Shrunken proportions (above-the-knee length, buttons tapering the sleeves almost to the elbow) give way to oversize lapels—a surprisingly whimsical touch (the Black Spy from Mad's "Spy vs. Spy" wore something similar). We're not ready to pronounce the age of the classic trench over, but if Hershberger and Moseley are, they've offered a compelling vision of the future.
$488, available at Assembly New York, 174 Ludlow St., NYC, (212) 253-5393, assemblynewyork.com
