The nine films to know from the New York Film Festival

Oscar season continues its advance this Friday with the opening of this year's typically highbrow fest. On the docket: Mickey Rourke playing a pro wrestler, Benicio del Toro playing that guy from your kid brother's T-shirt, and Angelina Jolie playing, well, a MILF. (Sadly, press screenings of that last one don't start until October.) While we suffered through a couple of clunkers—Bullet in the Head had us wishing for one; Summer Hours proves that an Oliver Assayas flick without Asia Argento isn't worth watching—we also found nine movies worth the price of admission. Here they are, along with all the pertinent info to make you sound like you saw them.
