Confederacy rises

Now open in Los Angeles: Confederacy, a much-anticipated shop from stylist Ilaria Urbinati and actor Danny Masterson. The 5,000-square-foot locale will sell clothes from the usual suspects (Bastian, Ervell, Tim Hamilton), accessories from Woolrich and Rag & Bone (who also designed the staff's uniforms), and everything from vintage issues of GQ to antique workout equipment (used as a display). You'll also find work from a rotating group of artists, with the first exhibition devoted to sketches by Julian Schnabel. "We really were aiming for it to be a bit of a culture center for L.A.," Masterson says. "I feel the city really needs that." (Spoken like a true Long Island native.)

The shop also has something called the "shoe living room" (below), where you can browse for footwear from the likes of Common Projects and Givenchy while nestled on an eight-foot leather chesterfield couch. And finally, there will soon be an exclusive line of bespoke suits designed by Albert Hammond, Jr. (of the Strokes) with an assist from the co-owners and Brooklyn tailor Martin Greenfield. "It will be small, classic, and very specific to our taste and Albert's amazing eye," says Masterson. "It's for the guy who doesn't want the average ill-fitting, awkward-dude-in-a-suit fit." In other words, not very L.A., which is all right by us.

This really looks like a cool shop. I'm loving the displays.

Sounds like the suits are going to be pretty funky. I am wondering if they are really bespoke or if they are simply using that as a buzzword & really creating them as made-to-measure. I do not have a problem with made-to-measure (or custom) as that is what I sell and have great confidence in it. However I do not tout my clothing as bespoke. It takes a lot to be bespoke and should not be taken lightly.

Wrong. Everything about this looks and sounds wrong.
Who they are, what they say, what they sell and how.
Unfortunate.
