Rye detector

It was bound to happen sooner or later: Rye is getting a makeover, and the folks who own Maker's Mark are to thank. Called (rī)1 (and pronounced "rye one"), the new spirit is being billed as the first ever ultra-premium rye, which probably explains its mod label. But even if you're not fond of its packaging (and we're not), the quaff is lighter and drier than most of the industrial-strength stuff out therepleasantly peppery, and smooth enough to sip neat, with notes of dried fruit, honey, and cinnamon. Whether or not you put the bottle on display is your business.
