No-brow meets high-brow
Leave it to a German art book publisher to really cover the waterfront on subjects of stylish (if somewhat marginal) cultural significance. No One Is Innocent: Punk Art-Style-Revolt, the latest volume from Verlag für moderne Kunst Nürnberg, is an exhaustive companion volume to the in-your-face art exhibition in Vienna that closed this past September. The title is taken from a Sex Pistols single, but from that rather predictable starting point follows a deft assemblage of the ephemera generated in the punk capitals of New York, London, and Berlin during their heydays. From the Ramones to Robert Longo and Richards Hell and Kern, and with contributions along the way from Malcolm McLaren and GQ Style Guy Glenn O'Brien, this is a must-have for fans of contemporary art (not to mention aficionados who pride themselves, say, on the proper pronunciation of Einstürzende Neubauten).
