Under the Guns

Ludlow Street is, of course, the Lower East Side's version of a hipster mall, and the latest business to set up operations there isn't about to change that. Still, there's an undeniable appeal to Tommy Guns, the first stateside salon from the 15-year-old British chain that's famous for clientele like the Kills and Pete Doherty. (Don't worry: You don't need to have slept with Kate Moss to make an appointment.) The space features leather-upholstered chairs from the thirties, marble floors and countertops, vintage lighting, and exposed concrete columns—yep, the 2008 Manhattan barbershop kit—and men's cuts go for $75 (not a pittance, but not rock-star prices, either). It also carries high-end toiletries and grooming products, like Geo F. Trumper's shaving cream and sharp, citrusy West Indian Extract of Limes cologne. Hey, we applaud any attempts to make the L.E.S. smell better.
