Subtlety? Overrated

After appointing a pinup to his cabinet last week, Italian PM Silvio Berlusconi finds himself once again treading dicey ethical (and marital) territory. GQ UK reports that Berlusconi was caught on camera passing a flirty note to Nunzia De Girolamo (pictured, left) and Gabriella Giammanco (right), two attractive female members of his parliament. (Its contents included the following lines of deathless prose: "Gabri, Nunzia, you look very good sitting there together," "Thank you for sticking around [to listen to the speech] but it is not necessary," and "Many kisses both of you!!!") Said Giammanco, "He was not trying it on at all." We wouldn't blame his wife, of course, for thinking differently.

Cubicle blues

Misery doesn't always love company: Heartbroken workers at Japan's Hime & Co. can now get up to three days off to mourn the demise of their relationships. Employees of the PR firm can request "heartache leave," reports The Telegraph—though no one has actually taken the time yet. Duration varies by age: Workers in their early 20s can take a day, those in their mid-20s get two, and those 30 and up receive three. What if Miss Last Night isn't returning your texts? No word, but we wouldn't bank on anything longer than a coffee break.

New York's loss, Portland's gain

The Deschutes Brewery & Public House opened last weekend, a new restaurant and home for the Portland, OR, maker of craft beers like Mirror Pond Pale Ale and Black Butte Porter. The space features a stone fireplace, tables made from remilled timber, and gilt-framed photos on the walls—clearly, an establishment that adheres to the don't-fix-what-isn't-broke aesthetic. Augmenting the old-timey vibe are the urinals (pictured), manufactured for P.J.Clarke's in Manhattan but never used. Hey, if your customers will be spending that much time in the bathroom, it only makes sense for them to anticipate breaking the seal.

The surprisingly long shelf life of "Cybill"

Strange but true: Cybill Shepherd's eponymous mid-nineties sitcom has turned out to be an unexpected talent farm. First, Alan Ball based the frustrations of American Beauty's iconic Lester Burnham on his own experiences writing for the show, and now another one of the show's writers is mining his travails for material. As part of a CBS crossover stunt, Chuck Lorre (the evil mastermind behind Two and a Half Men) has cowritten Thursday's CSI: Las Vegas. The plot? A blonde "sitcom diva" gets murdered, and everyone who works on the show is a suspect. (The episode's even called "Two and a Half Deaths.") Revenge—best enjoyed ice-cold, and all that. And, hey, it's gotta be funnier than tonight's Two and a Half Men, written by the crew from CSI.
