Jack Spade's neckwear guru gears up for Father's Day

June 11, 2007—Leave it to Andy Spade to inject a little fun into buying your dad a Father's Day tie. Or, more specifically, leave it to Andy Spade's well-liked publicist-about-town Mordechai Rubinstein, sneaker head, avid flickrgallerist, and, it turns out, obsessive collector of deadstock neckwear. Throughout the coming weekend, Rubinstein will be selling pieces from his vast collection of fifties-era ties while seated at a massive wood desk parked out in front of the Jack Spade store on SoHo's Greene Street. (That's a little preview of what to expect, above.) Among the offerings, which have been dubbed Mister Mort for Jack Spade, there will be classic diagonal-stripe executives, skinny "slim-jims," and military wool numbers—even some paisley. Rubinstein will also be selling cuff links, tie bars, and pocket squares (made from vintage shirting fabrics acquired through ten years of thrifting), plus his own brand of sartorial advice, free of charge. And for those with daddy issues, Rubinstein says the event is not fathers-only. "It's Father's Day, but I'm looking at it more like celebrating men in general," he says. "Any excuse to get men dressed, Mister Mort will be there."

Mister Mort for Jack Spade ties, $45, available 12–5 p.m., Friday–Sunday, Jack Spade, 56 Greene St., NYC, (212) 625-1820, www.jackspade.com
