Perse brings a "Malibu sensibility" to the bedroom

September 26, 2007—Having managed to transform plain cotton T-shirts and drawstring pants into bona fide luxury items, James Perse is now turning his attention to bedding. The results, which include supple cotton sheets, duvet covers, and cashmere pillow covers and blankets (left), are as opulently basic (or is that basically opulent?) as you'd expect from Perse. They're also—dare we say—downright masculine. Available exclusively at Perse's brand-new Beverly Hills flagship (which opens tomorrow), the line captures the same California cool as the designer's menswear. "It's a Malibu sensibility, outdoor and athletic," Perse says. "We've used a bit of a beachy surfer vibe, with stripes and great sophisticated colors."

And it's not too bad to sleep on, either: While outer layers—i.e., the part people would see if you actually went to the trouble of making your bed—are made from 500-thread-count cotton, interior fabric is sueded and brushed for extra softness. "From the outside, it looks like classic sophisticated bedding, but you get in and it's like sleeping in our classic T-shirt fabric," Perse promises. That last bit isn't just cross-promotion—it means the occasional guest will feel as comfortable in your bed as you do.
