Quest for Fire

A look inside the ABC comedy pipeline

March 7, 2006—ABC's decision to greenlight a sitcom pilot based on those Geico caveman ads has this going for it: Everyone knows what they're getting, more or less. The comic potential of some of the network's other upcoming pilots is harder to gauge—at least if you're judging by their titles and Variety's plot summaries.

The Call
"Action-packed comedy about a team of gifted yet unconventional L.A. paramedics who save people's lives while screwing up each other's—all in real time."

Carpoolers
"Ensemble show that follows the lives of four very different men who carpool to work together."

Family of the Year
"Family that has won the title 'family of the year' ten times."

Miss/Guided
"Ugly duckling returns to her alma mater as a guidance counselor only to have her high-school nemesis join her as a teacher."

Traveling in Packs
"Three single women in their thirties who find living together has a lot more benefits."
