With Flickr tags, online photo-sharing becomes art

July 14, 2005—Flickr.com has transformed online photo-sharing from annoying-baby-photo-distribution device into a collaborative art form, thanks to its "tagging" function, which allows users to browse all pics marked with a certain descriptive term. Click through to a few of our favorite Flickr-tag galleries and you'll see what we mean:

Hammertime: Genius use of MC Hammer's greatest lyric

Least Wanted: Mugshots of the nonfamous, from Fresno trannies to thirties commies

Pisa Pushers: Guerrilla snaps of tourists posing as though they're holding up the Leaning Tower of Pisa

Drunk: Just what it sounds like—Jenna Bush wannabes

Engrish: Charming Japanese misuse of the world's best super-happy-fun language

Macro: Hey, close-ups are just objectively cool
