The Pearl represents a nice reversal of the norm—rather than a business phone with add-on media functionality, it's first a sleek candybar phone with BlackBerry's business-oriented software and push e-mail capabilities. CrackBerry addicts are rightly iffy on the two-letters-per-key SureType predictive text keyboard, though on the plus side, the Pearl is the first BlackBerry to replace the traditional side thumbwheel with the superior multidirectional scroll wheel. On the fence? Wait till the Pearl 2 drops. It will likely be a solid improvement, and also drive the current model down in price.
