Best known for mountain bikes, this relative newcomer out of Washington state does well by commuters too. With sturdy fenders, practically bombproof Alex DC-19 rims, and an internal gear systema long-lasting alternative to derailleursthis thing is built to last. Unfortunately, that durability translates into some serious bulk (despite the weight-saving aluminum frame). On the plus side, an included, hub-powered front light means the Transfer's great for a nighttime ride, though after dark no one will be able to see its excellent red-and-white paint job.
