Schwinn World City/Commuter DBX

This isn't the Schwinn three-speed from your childhood. This forward-thinking ride actually sports a whopping 27 gearsideal for those who live in a hilly city. And if that hilly city has potholeswe've heard this happens from time to timethis model's carbon fork and disc brakes do a good job of minimizing shocks. And somehow, all those features are packed into a relatively lightweight package. On the downside, the World City/Commuter DBX bike comes with lower-end Shimano Tiagra components, doubly disappointing given its $1,200 price tag (though the Schwinn's schweet exterior might justify a few extra bucks).
