BMW X6

The latest creation of BMW designer-in-chief Chris Bangle is once again inciting verbal fisticuffen. Is this slant-lidded, SUV-cum-coupe another industry trendsetter, or is it a senselessly frivolous package that sacrifices functionality to fashion? We vote for the latter, without apology. Despite Bangle's assertions to the contrary, this slope-backed SUV is seriously lacking in the utility department. On the upside, that shortcoming is amply made up for in the sport department: When it touches down in April, the X6 will come equipped with either a twin-turbo, 300-hp six or the twin-turbo, 400-hp V-8. Let the sparks fly.
