Toyota FJ Cruiser 4WD

Here's the rare Toyota that actually stresses design over numbing, Camry-esque functionality. Its Hasbro-meets-Himalayas shape, drawn from the legendary FJ40 Land Cruisers of the sixties and seventies, is retro-sporty without seeming frozen in amber. But there's nothing cutesy about its off-road cred: A welded-steel frame, low-geared four-wheel-drive, Torsen center differential, locking rear diff, electronic traction system, and massive wheel travel let the FJ go where others fear to tread. Then again, the inability to visually spot the Toyota's four corners can make navigating city streets an adventure in itself.
