Samsung 81 Series LED LCDs

As you may or may not know, most LCD screens are actually backlit by fluorescent light. And, as anyone who's ever worked in an office knows, fluorescent light isn't exactly the easiest on the eyes. Enter LED technology, which is better for your eyes, makes for more accurate image reproduction, and even reduces power consumption by about ten percent. Of course, it has also come at a hefty premium—until now. Samsung's new sets are the first to offer LED at a competitive price—the 52-incher costs only $200 more than a similarly sized and featured Sony Bravia XBR5. Better yet, it boasts a 500,000:1 dynamic contrast ratio, the highest of any flat-panel out there. The downside? Well, being comparable to a top-shelf Bravia doesn't mean it's cheap.
