John Woo's Stranglehold

Movie-branded games are a mixed bag—for every breakout hit (GoldenEye) there are a dozen derivative failures (Transformers, Lord of the Rings). Happily, Stranglehold belongs in the former category. The game is intended as a "spiritual sequel" to Hard Boiled, and lets you control Inspector Tequila—Chow Yun Fat's character in the movie—as he takes part in epic, cinematic shootouts. Our favorite feature: Tequila Time, a Woo-style slow motion that allows you extra seconds to blow up more stuff. Also cinematic: the game's emphasis on shootouts over plot. Not always such a bad thing, that.
