This song is melancholy beyond its lyrics: Duane Allman was killed in a motorcycle accident after recording it, and Dickey Betts refused to perform the song live for a few years after he divorced the song's namesake Sandy "Blue Sky" Wabegijig in 1975. But despite that, it's still a barn burner with frantic fretwork on the slide guitar, a few outbreaks of harmony, and, most notably, a solo you can almost sing along to. Hey, frat guy, we said "almost."
