Chinaco

Chinaco, which debuted here in 1983, was the first-ever ultrapremium tequila to be imported to the U.S. It was also, apparently, a decade ahead of its time: The distillery closed up shop in the late eighties. Luckily for agave-lovers on this side of the Rio Grande, the sons of the original founder resumed operation in 1993. The tequila they make is as delicious—and sought-after—as any. Aged to three years in oak barrels, Chinaco's smoky, oaky start gives way to floral and vanilla notes with a hint of pear flavor. In other words, it's got the complexity of cognac, so enjoy it in a snifter.
