Deutz Brut
While the nonvintage Classic Brut is produced annually, Deutz only bottles a single-vintage brut in the best years; the 2000 is just the 11th such bottling since 1974 (most houses aren't so discriminating). So what's it like? Rich and full, with layers of citrus, peach, and green apple unfolding through a long, elegant finish. Since the wine rests at least three years in the bottle, its nervy acidity is accompanied by the yeasty, doughy complexity expected in fine Champagne—a taste that oenophiles call "leesy." Which, when you think about it, is yet another reason not to talk like an oenophile.
