Nationwide Freezer Meats
Despite the name, the meat here is never frozen. Nationwide started out as a butcher and fell into the restaurant business accidentally when the original owner started frying up burgers so customers could sample his wares. His son runs the place now, but it retains its old-school charm—burgers come wrapped in butcher paper and stuffed into a brown paper bag, whether you stay or go. The special is the "French" ground steakburger, served on a slightly sweet toasted French roll from a local bakery. The third-of-a-pound Harris Ranch beef burgers are juicy, well-seasoned, and predressed with crisp lettuce, tomato, red onion, and a Thousand Island–like sauce. Unfortunately, the plank fries are just what they sound like, so ask for extra ketchup.
