The Cozy Inn
At the tiny six-stool Cozy Inn, the palm-size sliders are cooked atop a thick bed of onions and seasoned with nothing more than salt and pepper. It's now in its 85th year, and little has changed here, including the overpowering scent of onions, which, for the record, even permeates the sealed plastic bags that contain the souvenir T-shirts. Burgers that originally cost a nickel now go for 75 cents, but they're still griddled on the original 18" x 36" cast-iron flattop that started it all. (When the owners tried to replace the grill in the forties, customers protested, demanding that the flavor-giving original be returned immediately.) At a mere ounce each, one burger isn't going to suffice (locals typically go for six at a time), and don't ask for cheese, unless you enjoy feeling like you just ordered light beer in a dive bar.
