Town Topic
While the neighborhood surrounding Town Topic has recently become KC's gentrifying "Crossroads Art District," old-timers still consider it home to the best burgers (and this is a town that knows a thing or two about beef). The hole-in-the-wall diner still has its original neon sign, Formica counters, and no-frills attitude (those who ask for ashtrays are told to use the floor). And while the burgers look unassuming, one bite reveals the crisp, salty exterior of patties cooked on a superhot griddle and embedded with an ample amount of onion and "secret " seasonings (whatever they are, they work). A single does the trick as a light snack, but try a double with fries and a house-made shake for a meal you won't soon forget (or, for that matter, digest).
