A charming distillery that seemed to have been lost forever after being shuttered in 1994, Bruichladdich (pronounced "Brook-laddy") was reopened by an independent consortium in 2001. It's been grabbing attention ever since, largely thanks to the efforts of legendary whisky-maker (and master marketer) Jim McEwan, who presides over the production of a line of lighter-bodied, sophisticated whiskies that are most notable for their clean, unpeated flavor profile. While there are other editions, our favorite is the 15, which benefits from, yes, 15 years in oak, plus 26 weeks in casks that previously held Château d'Yquem Sauternes wine.
