Experts will tell you that up to 75 percent of the flavor of whisky comes from the cask, and while a good barrel won't save a bad whisky, it can certainly turn a very good spirit into a wonderful one. Glenmorangie (which is now owned by LVMH) has understood this for many years. Not many whiskies hold up well to 15 years of contact with oak, but this one manages just fine. At 15, in fact, Glenmorangie is still surprisingly light-footed and fresh, with a touch of ripe melon.
