Highland Park 18

Highland Park is one of two distilleries on the remote northern islands of Orkney, a strange hybrid of Scotland and Scandinavia that contains some spectacular sights. Among them: some mysterious circles of stone hewn from slabs of rock not native to the island, two prehistoric villages, and the Highland Park distillery. It's a rugged and windswept place, and the whisky suits the island well. After 18 years in oak, the wood is starting to show through, and the result is a perfect balance of peat, smoke, fruit spice, and oak. Highland Park 18 has been dubbed the best spirit in the world, and (especially in light of the very reasonable price), it's not hard to understand why.
