In the 18th century, when illegal distilling was at its peak, the Glenlivet region became known for producing the finest malt—so much so that good-time guy King George IV heard of its reputation and requested a glass while visiting. Across its product range, the Glenlivet continues to live up to that legacy, producing fine whisky among the smugglers' trails that criss-cross this part of the Speyside region. None, for our money, is finer than this 15-year-old, which boasts a distinctive spiciness derived from the use of fresh oak from the Limousin region of France.
