This family-run Napa Valley outfit makes a wide range of tipples, from wine and port to calvados and grappa, and even rum. But it's the Karakasevic clan's vodka that we find most impressive: alembic-distilled by hand at the so-called Still on the Hill, it has a clean, soft flavor even though it undergoes no filtration—patriarch Miles, a 12th-generation distiller, believes it's a harsh process that destroys the natural mouthfeel.
