Finlandia
The Finns began churning out vodka in the 1500s, almost as early as the Poles—gotta do something to pass those long dark winters—though this, the country's best-known export, was only created in 1970. Finlandia originates in a tiny town of Rajamäki, where the distillery has snapped up a chunk of land around its spring water source to protect purity and also monitors the local farmers who produce the six-row barley needed to make the brand. In fact, the vodka's unusual barley base gives the final product a surprising nuttiness on the end of the palate—try it neat, and you'll see what we mean.
