Luxury goods oligarch Roustam Tariko came up with the idea for this brand ten years ago, when he realized Russia had no homegrown, ultrapremium vodka. He launched it in true Russian oligarch style, renting out the Statue of Liberty and hiring Duran Duran to perform on a barge anchored in the middle of New York Harbor. But don't be put off by those nouveau riche trappings: This is an impressive liquor, made at a multimillion-dollar distillery in St. Petersburg with winter wheat from the Russian steppes and glacial water from Russia's Arctic north. Odd fact: It's said to be based on a recipe concocted by Dmitri Mendeleev, originator of the periodic table.
