Sadly, Americans seem to overlook Girard-Perregaux. "The brand is good, the styling is good, but I think the brand is missed here in the States. They don't get it, but in Europe and Asia they do," says Edward Faber. This watch makes Americans' cluelessness seem especially unforgivable. Retro and rectangular, with a distinct whiff of Art Deco, it's easily one of the world's most beautiful watches. And it's actually the marque's second repro model: In 1994 president Gino Macaluso launched GP's first 50th-anniversary watch, dubbing it the 1944. Macaluso then followed up the next year with this design, but his plan for annual archive-mining stopped here—why mess with perfection?
