The history of Glashütte Original overlaps with that of A. Lange & Söhne—both firms have their roots in Adolf Lange's prewar company, based in the German town of Glashütte. Though cheaper, G.O.'s watches stand up nicely to their cousins. Every component is hand-polished, even the parts you can't see, and the styles are more playful. The blue swords on the Senator Meissen are the logo of the porcelain firm that hand-makes and paints the dial, and they lend a certain quirky individuality. Glashütte watches have yet to garner the credit they deserve from the collector community, so get 'em before they're hot (and twice the price).
