Longines invented the first method of automatically timing track races (with the winner breaking a wire as he crossed the finish line), and the brand has a long history with aviation (it timed Charles Lindbergh's first transatlantic flight). The Heritage, though, looks more appropriate in the boardroom than the cockpit or athletic stadium. With its 35 mm case, it's a good choice if you prefer a narrower model, but it also has a heft that makes it stand out on the wrist (while fitting under your shirt cuff). The watch has an outsourced movement from ETA (a Swiss outfit that supplies movements for numerous firms), but it's still a great entry-level piece—yes, in this realm $2,000 just gets you in the door.
